At Scintel, our strategy has been to follow the world
benchmarks in Quality and also to set new benchmarks
by implementing the latest models & certifications.
Scintel Quality is more than a mere adherence to world
benchmarks, but a proactive quest for process improvement,
beyond conventional limits.
In this context, Scintel is using the Capability
Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI Model) developed by
the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), Carnegie
Mellon University, USA for improving the software
processes in the organization to achieve Maturity
Level 5.
CMMI as defined by SEI is a process improvement approach
that provides organizations with the essential elements
of effective processes. It can be used to guide process
improvement across a project, a division, or an entire
organization. CMMI helps integrate traditionally separate
organizational functions, set process improvement
goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality
processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising
current processes.
Some of the benefits of CMMI are:
-
Improved schedule and budget
predictability
-
Improved cycle time
-
Increased productivity
-
Improved quality (as measured
by defects)
-
Increased customer satisfaction
-
Improved employee morale
-
Increased return on investment
-
Decreased cost of quality
‘Every organization understands the importance
of having the best infrastructure, technology and
people; but even the finest people cannot perform
at their best when the process is not understood or
operating at its best’ – Carnegie Mellon
Software Engineering Institute.
Scintel firmly believes in this and in their quest
for excellence have adopted the best practices of
CMMI in their methodology and is planning to cover
the entire organization in a phased manner under CMMI
in the coming months.
By implementing the CMMI best practices into the
core methodology SPMM, Scintel enables organizations
to do the following:
-
More explicitly link management
and engineering activities to their business objectives
-
Expand the scope of and visibility
into the product life cycle and engineering activities
to ensure that the product or service meets customer
expectations
- Incorporate lessons learned from additional areas
of best practice (e.g., measurement, risk management,
and supplier management)
-
Implement more robust high-maturity
practices
-
Address organizational functions
critical to their products and services
-
Achieve greater compliance with
relevant ISO standards
